Dallas W. Morgan, CJF
Dallas was born in Australia and had a typical horse family upbringing. He was Pony Club President and worked in the family saddlery in his hometown of Warwick in Queensland Australia. At sixteen, he went to work mustering cattle and shoeing horses on large cattle stations. There he discovered that it would suite him to make a living shoeing horses.
In 1989 he ventured to the United States to attend a formal horseshoeing program and then stayed on to served as an assistant instructor. Currently, he holds Certified Journeyman Farrier status with the American Farriers Association and is recognized by the Worshipful Company of Farriers in England. |
In 1993 he became attending Farrier at Kansas State University. For six years he worked extensively with hospitalized therapeutic cases as well as maintained a remedial horseshoeing business.
In 1997 he competed through out England and qualified for the Royal Show. Upon returning to the USA, he moved to California where he primarily shod jumpers and dressage horses.
As a member of the American Farriers Team in 2000, he competed extensively through out the United States, Canada and England.
In 2002, the Morgans built an Equine Veterinary and Farrier Hospital in the finger lakes region of upstate New York. The primary focus of the hospital is lameness diagnostics and therapeutic treatments. Dallas sees therapeutic cases in the hospital as well as travels to private stables to shoe horses. During the winter, he has hosted educational sessions that focus on shoemaking for horseshoeing and competition and tool making and maintenance. He has also coordinated January Super Clinics where the industries most current and top farrier blacksmiths give an intensive hands on clinic for farriers of all skill levels in conjunction with the Western New York Farriers Association.
Dallas took hiatus from competitive shoemaking after his term on the AFT to build and develop Morgan Equine Veterinary & Farrier Hospital. Competing, judging and giving clinics are again on the schedule. After he returned to competing he won the World Championship Blacksmith (WCB) Overall High Point and was the Open Division Winner at Flagstaff Arizona. He has traveled extensively as a horseshoeing and forging clinician as well as a Delta-Mustad sponsored clinician. Delta-Mustad is the primary provider of hoof care tools, shoes and nails in the USA and it is an honor to represent their company because they support education in the Farrier Industry.
In his spare time, he enjoys traveling abroad and competing in horse trials with Jessica and their horses.
