The Dressage Derby
at Morgan Equine
2012 Date will be announced in March
In the Spring of 2012, Morgan Equine will host a Dressage Derby!
You can ride your choice of USDF or USEA Dressage test and if you are cross training you can jump a stadium round or navigate a cavalletti course in your dressage saddle. Of course, you can also choose not to jump or complete the cavalletti course, just ride your Dressage test.
How fun is that?
You should be able to find answers to FAQs on this page. If you still have questions please email.
Ride times will be available at the bottom of this page. There is also a downloadable one page program if you need to see it in your hands on paper.

How a Dressage Derby works at Morgan Equine
You should plan to arrive about 1 hour and 15 minutes before your dressage test time. Please leave your dog at home. Pack a water bucket for your horse and a chair for your groom.
ONLY use directions from this website. GPS and MapQuest will make for unhappy horses!
Please park so you are facing "out". We can help you back in if you need it. Space is limited.
Sign in with the Secretary at the end of the Stabling area, orient yourself with the grounds, fill your horses water
bucket from the hose at the front of the hospital and spy the porta potty.
Walk your jumping or cavalletti course.
Get your horse saddled for Dressage. Warm up in the designated area which will likely be the cross country field. We would prefer full dress, but schooling dress is acceptable.
You will be called to the "on deck" position approximate 4 minutes before your ride time. We will be on time.
Ride a fantastic test!
Go back to the trailer, offer a drink of water and change you and your horse's attire if needed. 20 minutes after you finish your dressage test; your stadium time or cavalletti course time will begin.
Make your way to the Stadium Area. There will be three warm up jumps (cross rail, vertical and oxer) and a cavelleti warm up (set at trot distance) outside the stadium area. You will be called to start your jumping or cavelleti course 20 minutes from your dressage test time. A 4 minute heads up can be given if you like. Just tell the stadium or cavalletti starter when you check in with them.
There is no time limit for either course.
Faults for the jumping or cavelletti are as follows:
Refusal= 20 faults
cavalletti or rail down= 4 faults
Repeating a cavalletti or jump = 4 faults
Cavalleti will be placed in walk, trot and canter configurations along the trotting track and in a portion of the cross country jump field. Stadium Jumps will be set for beginner novice and novice. Training is the same as novice, just bigger. BN, N and T will include stadium fences as well as 3 or 4 solid fences. Please bring your vest and medical arm band if you are jumping and you have them.
Numbers will not be issued at this Derby. You will be called by you and your horses name. Please be ready for your designated dressage time.

What might the Stadium Jumping Round look like?
There is a combination of stadium fences and solid objects. The Training Course will be the same as the Novice Course, only bigger! Please download your course and bring it with you if you think you will need it. There will not be handouts for the course. We are trying to make this an eco-friendly derby. The course will be clearly marked BN and N/T and there will be a posted board with the courses and any other rider information you will need to know about.
