Jessica
Morgan DVM
Born
into an active animal loving family in central Minnesota, she showed
horses and dogs in both 4-H and open arenas during her childhood. As
a member of the MN High School Rodeo Association for 4 years, she competed
in Team Roping (header), Break-a-way Roping, Goat Tying, Barrel Racing,
Pole Bending and Cutting. She was also the MN High School Rodeo Queen.
Jessica attended Horseshoeing School after high school. She had been
trimming her own ponies since she was 13. For her; it was an essential
and logical step to the complete Veterinary education of an equine practitioner.
It was there she met her husband, Dallas. There is a charming story
where instructor fraternizes with student somewhere in there.
They moved to Kansas to complete her Bachelor of Science degree in Animal
Science and Industry at Kansas State University. She was the KSU women’s
Rodeo team captain, a scholarship Goat Tyer and Miss Rodeo K-State.
In 1997 she graduated from Kansas State University’s College of
Veterinary Medicine.
An internship in Equine Medicine and Surgery at a private equine practice
led her to Southern California. There she accumulated a Dressage horse
and a completely new style of riding. She remained in California, operating
a solo equine ambulatory practice for six years.
Needing a change of pace and a peaceful place to call home, Dallas and
Jessica made the move to open Morgan Equine Veterinary and Farrier Hospital
in the Finger Lakes region of New York. She has made lots of horsey
friends and has dabbled in fox hunting, hunter paces, polo and lots
of fabulous trail riding.
In an effort to get back to some sort of serious horse competition,
Jessica purchased a 9 year old Dutch warmblood mare named Sagen. In
2008, she and Sagen spent time training with Eventing Olympian Phillip
Dutton and Boyd and Sylva Martin in Pennsylvania at both the summer
and fall Eventing camps.
Her continuing education efforts have led her to complete specialty
veterinary acupuncture, chiropractic and dentistry courses. All of which
have led her to proficiency in evaluating and treating the whole horse.
Currently, she is attending the International Society of Equine Locomotor
Pathology continuing education series that leads to examination and
special membership within the society. The focus of the group is Ultrasonography,
Radiography, Anatomy and MRI diagnostic procedures that advance the
understanding of lameness in horses.
Her hobbies include arts, crafts and sewing projects, gardening and
travel. She and Dallas have been on several wonderful vacation experiences.
They have visited Australia, Brazil, Canada, England, Fiji, Honduras,
India, Mexico and many islands of the Caribbean. The next adventure
should be Africa.
