I also need to thank Jennifer for her efforts as secretary. I have said many times that the only reason we have this show is because Jennifer takes care of the secretarial duties. Thank you my friend!!
We have had a good run and as you may have heard, this was our last show. The course is open for schooling and we are hoping there will be a long fall equestrian season to enjoy! |

Competitor Comments
Just a quick note of thanks and appreciation to Jessica, Dallas and Jennifer for the Express Event on Sat. I wanted to compliment you-all on not just the well-run program and the beautiful grounds, but also for the thoughtful and flexible jumping opportunities that made the day so very productive & educational for me and my horse.
And I'm so pleased that we have a venue of this caliber "on the East Side" so we don't have to truck to Geneseo all the time for competitions and schooling. Thank you... we'll be back! I had a great time!!! definitely going to make this my MUST go to events. Friendly atmosphere and inviting jumps. Made for a great day! Your facility is gorgeous! I hope to come school there again soon. |
We had a great time Saturday at the Dressage show. Looking forward to next year. You have a beautiful place and it was well run. Thanks for a fun day!

2015 Dressage & Express Event Wrap Up
It's been a few days since our Dressage & Express Event concluded and thought you might be interested in some closing comments.
First, we would like to thank Gale Wolfe for a very educational day in the dressage court and her efficient scribe Pam Schneider. Without their dedication it would be impossible for us to host this event. And, thanks to the one and only event secretary I would ever have, Jennifer Swindon, who keeps the level of crazy that it takes to run an event firmly in line. I was so pleased that she got to ride this year!
Taking home Champion Ribbons
The High Dressage and USDF Score of the day goes to Wendy Penfold and Cat in the Hat aka Lupin. They scored an impressive 78.08% Lupin has been put through his paces this year and has stepped up to the challenge every time. I know Wendy is very proud of him and she should be.
The High USEA Dressage Score goes to Pam Tooker who bravely rides even though she insists she is too old and broken or something like that to ride ;> She clearly rode a very nice test on Starlit Dancer to score 23.5 Pam Tooker...not going to feel sorry for you if you keep riding like that!
Lori Elrod and The Red Baron successfully completed a clear stadium and cross country round with the lowest dressage score to give them the Champion ribbon in the Express Event. She made those rounds look picture and foot perfect. Nice job Lori!
Megan Stapley, the event photographer, has some AMAZING images for you to look at.

Were we lucky or were we lucky? to have had a beautiful day and good footing. I would be thrilled if we continued to have lovely weather through the fall giving us an actual season of riding this year.
We have received very nice compliments about the event and it helps us look forward to planning next years event. If you have suggestions or would like to volunteer to help, please let us know, we are game for about anything to make a fun and enjoyable day with horses.

2014 Dressage and Express Event Report, Dressage Judge Sandra Beaulieu (L)
August 2nd 2014 was a glorious sunny Saturday where the weather cooperated, the footing was fabulous and the Fourth Annual Dressage and Express Event at Morgan Equine Veterinary and Farrier Hospital in Locke NY commenced without a hitch. What is a Dressage and Express Event? The European inspired event is traditionally a coliseum event where competitors move through dressage, stadium and cross country phases in minutes rather than hours. They pull on a coat and tack, complete that phase and without leaving the arena toss that coat and pull on the next coat and tack in rapid succession to provide crowd entertainment and demonstrate the clear diversity required of horses and riders in modern eventing.
This year in the dressage court, USDF, USEA and Prix Caprilli tests were ridden for Sandra Beaulieu of Maine, an "L" dressage judge with an impressive and extensive equestrian resume. She was very pleased with the quality of horses and riders and excited to see the cross over to the jump field from the dressage court. We do of course offer just dressage tests for those pure at heart, but for those who wanted to cross train, there was a 15 minute call at the jump field to be warmed up and ready to complete a level specific course consisting of stadium fences that lead to the cross country field. That's not much time to get organized, dressed, tacked and warmed up for a demanding jump session, but all the express entries were game and ready to go when it was their turn.
Just to note a few things about the event itself; there was a full crowd watching the jump field and cheering competitors on! Horses and riders that needed time to repeat a jump or get it right were allowed that time. It's a schooling show and the most important thing is that everyone gets around the course safely and finishes with confidence. There were a couple new jumps and twists on the course and we have a few more already planned for the next event. A few people new to the way the event at Morgan Equine is run were stunned that the show proceeds essentially on time. We always have a photographer and again this year it was Maureen Jordan of A Different Breed Studios. She brings an artistic flair to horse pictures that is uniquely her own.

2013 Dressage & Express Event Report, Judge Valerie Knight (R)
August 17th was a gorgeous day! A welcomed reprieve from mother nature. This year has been difficult for horse people to get their steeds out and about. With cancellations and wet footing, it has made for a long rainy summer.
This day was a different breed all together. Smiles, well dressed competitors, content horses with clean tack it was a recipe for success. Valery Knight and her keen ability to not miss a thing made for very fair Dressage scores with helpful notes. A technical stadium course and challenging cross country course put riders and horses to the test. Completion for many was met with a sense of pride and joy that was really nice to see. It helps us think about next year. |
